Max Einstandig was born in Vienna, Austria on 15 June 1912 to Jacob and Yetta Einstandig. He came to the United States with his family in 1914 where the Einstandig family settled in Indianapolis. Max graduated from Emmerich Manual Training High School and attended Butler University. He went on to study social work, received his master's degree and worked for a year at the Kirshbaum Community Center before turning to business.
